Following the success of the long distance Hong Kong to Beijing Rally in the late 80’s and early 90’s, China’s Motorsport Federation, the FASC, decided to further develop rallying in their country. The Federation plans included the introduction of a National Rally Championship, a driver development programme and, most ambitious of all, hosting a World Rally Championship event in Beijing. Andy Moss, Cube’s MD, was recruited as the consultant to work directly with the Federation to help them achieve their aspirational goals.
The national rally programme developed very quickly, aided by a National Rally Academy and training school, where several young drivers were identified and given bespoke and professional rally training.
Supported by British American Tobacco, the global sponsor of the 555 World Rally Team, Andy and the FASC contracted the organisers of Rally Australia to assist in running the sporting aspects of the event. With their combined help, the event fast-tracked through the process of development, hosting two rounds of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship, before breaking records and gaining full WRC status in only its third year.
In recognition of Andy’s outstanding consultancy role in China, developing motorsport in Asia, bringing a World Championship event to fruition and leaving a lasting legacy of continuing motorsport development, we have been awarded with a life time friendship of the FASC and its members.
